With all the bad press going around the optional feature in Teslas, Autopilot, many people were left wondering if this feature should even be allowed in a car. However, there is more to the story than just the one death.
Elon Musk tweeted out a letter he received from a Tesla owner. The tweet is embedded below.
Autopilot prevents serious injury or death of a pedestrian in NY (owner anecdote confirmed by vehicle logs) pic.twitter.com/NceuqckqCK

This accident was prevented with auto emergency brake, which is standard on all Teslas. The Autopilot features are a premium.
Also, Musk revealed his master plan part 2 today. In that he outlined a very important fact.
According to the recently released 2015 NHTSA report, automotive fatalities increased by 8% to one death every 89 million miles. Autopilot miles will soon exceed twice that number and the system gets better every day
This clearly outlines that there is absolutely no need to turn off Tesla Autopilot. Turning of Tesla’s Autopilot would not help anyone or anything. It would only slow down much needed innovation.
