We are several years in the transition to electrification in the automotive world, but in the United States, there are still not as many options as there could. Part of that has to do with the fact that inherited car manufacturers are still making the transition to electrical transmissions. While most companies offer at least one vehicle, the vast majority of them certainly do not have as many EVs as ice cars.
The perfect example of that is the world of electric silk. To be clear, companies prioritize sedans less in general in the United States considering the proliferation of larger vehicles such as crossovers and SUV. But what if you want an electric sedan and live in the United States?
Before continuing, if I know that the BMW I5 is expensive and out of price rank for many buyers. Is outside the price range for me – But after driving a 2024 BMW I5 EDRive40 during the last week, I would undoubtedly be close to the top of my list if I had a little more effective in the bank.
Luxury design
The things that are great about the BMW i5 are the things you would do wait Be great. They are the things BMW has been doing well for decades.
To begin with, the vehicle is incredibly luxurious, although without venturing into excessive territory, such as i7. The interior of the vehicle is almost identical to the series 5 to gasoline, which is something good here.

The i5 is comfortable and spacious, both in the first and in the second row, and the seats are covered with a premium sewing leather. There is a great accent lighting, and the materials throughout the vehicle are clearly high -end.
The space within the vehicle is one of the main things that distinguishes it from the smallest I4, especially in the second row. In other words, if it drives regularly around a family, it could be worth considering the largest vehicle.
The exterior also looks great. BMW has been reduced from large renal grilles a few years ago, and the latest models seem unequivocally BMW, but in good sense. Of course, the “renal grid” in the I5 is only there for the show, but it does not look bad at all.

The i5 that I drove during the past week had the BMW M Sport package too. That gives you things like premium wheels, carbon fiber style and more. Most people will not need that, but I certainly enjoyed having it.
All this binds in a way that definitely distinguishes the BMW i5 from other electric silk. The cheapest sedans, such as ioniq 6, simply cannot match the premium aspect of the i5, but even the similar price evidence does not offer everything you can get here. The lucid airFor example, it is a great vehicle, but it is not as well built as the i5, and I prefer the design of the i5. The main competitor in my opinion is the i4, which is also great, but again, not so great.
Zippy and receptive
The luxury interior, of course, is not surprising of a series of 5. Nor are the excellent actions. The BMW i5 works very well. As mentioned, my review model was an I5 EDRive40, which is not as impressive as the i5 m60 much faster. However, for the M60, you will have to pay almost $ 20,000 more, and frankly, the performance offered by the I5 EDRive40 will be further than enough for most.

These days, it is easy to concentrate in 0-60 MPH times for car performance, but there is much more in the performance of the car than that. Of course, the I5 EDRive40 may not coincide with the teslas centered on performance, but it still felt very fast, either accelerated in an entrance ramp or simply advancing a vehicle on the highway. It also helps put it in sports mode, which sacrifices the driving range by putting even more power in those wheels. The vehicle has 335 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, and can accelerate 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds.
He also managed wonderfully. Corners are needed as a champion, hugging the road with a minimum of inclination, even while accelerating.

The range is not bad, although it could be better. The I5 EDRive40 obtains 295 miles of rank, according to the EPA, and can load up to 205KW, which is not bad.
It is not a technology company
But the i5 is certainly not perfect, and falls into many of the same difficulties in which other inherited car manufacturers fall. In other words, BMW is not a technology company, and if you are trying to become a long way to go.
Like others, BMW has packed most controls on the information and entertainment screen, including things such as climatic controls. Unlike other car manufacturers, while there are some The weather constantly controls on the screen, they are actually mounted to control the temperature. That’s right, nothing for fan speed, fan selection, etc. There is a dedicated capacitive button for the lack of lack of windows, but when the time comes to turn to the foul offHe will not return to the configuration he was using before the windows tarnish, leaving me trembling in the cold fan in the middle of the winter.

That, of course, is not to mention the real software, which is poorly designed at best. I was forced to use the Info -Retention screen incorporated for the week, because Carplay would not work properly. BMW’s self -developed information and entertainment system has certainly improved, but it is still confusing, a bit slow and seems outdated. And I would like BMW to bring some of those physical climate controls.
But, at the end of the day, if I bought An i5 would spend more time making CarPlay work properly (as he has done in most other BMW that I have driven), and then, probably avoid using the software incorporated the vast majority of the time, except when I am forced To do things like climate configuration.
Should you buy the BMW I5?
The BMW I5 is an excellent electric sedan, but there are also others that are worth considering. He Lucid air It is a better EV, with a much better range and a better software, but I prefer the quality of interior construction of the i5. There are cheaper electric sedans (even if there are not many), such as ioniq 6, but although it is quite close to i5 when it comes to EV things (and even surpasses it in things like load speed), it does not. Look as premium or feel luxurious. In other words, the BMW i5 is certainly not for everyone, but if you want a luxury electric sedan with a little space inside, it is worth considering it absolutely.
